Biblical Tours - Biblical Treasures in Jordan

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Amman

You will be met and assisted at Queen Alia Airport, Amman, then transferred to your Hotel.
Overnight: Amman.

Day 2: Umm Qais - Pella - Anjara

This morning we drive to Umm Qais in the far north of Jordan overlooking the Sea of Galilee. Formerly known as Gadera, the basalt basilica is believed to mark the site where Jesus' miracle of the Gadarene swine occurred. Then visit the sites of Penuel (modern day Pella). Pella witnessed a determining battle between Christian Romans and Muslims. Finally, we visit the Shrine of the Lady of the Mountain at the Roman Catholic Church in Anjara. The church was built to commemorate an overnight stay by Jesus, his disciples and the Virgin Mary during a journey from Jerusalem to Galilee in a cave nearby. Return to Amman

Day 3: Jerash - City Tour

Breakfast, then an early morning visit to one of the 7 Wonders of the New World, the rose red city of Petra. With your professional English Drive to Jerash, one of the best preserved and most complete provincial Roman cities. With your guide, take a 2-hour tour to see Greek temples, Roman Theatres, Byzantine churches, colonnaded streets and more. At the conclusion of the tour, continue exploring this large city before returning to the entrance gates to meet your driver. Drive to Amman for a tour of the downtown area and stop at The Citadel. Situated on the highest of the 7 hills of Amman, this is the site of the oldest civilization in the city. See the Umayyad Palace and Reception Hall, Temple of Hercules and Archaeological Museum.

Day 4: Mount Nebo - Madaba - Karak - Petra

Taking the Kings' Highway, an ancient caravan route to see Mt. Nebo. Here God showed Moses the Holy Land before he died. From the lookout view the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, Jericho, and the Mountains of Jerusalem. Close by is Madaba, famous for the mosaic map in the 6th Century St George Church which shows all major biblical sites from Lebanon to Egypt, especially Jerusalem and the Holy Land. Continue along the Kings' Highway, passing through Wadi Mujib to reach Karak. Stop to explore the famous Crusader castle built in 1132/34 by King Baldwin I. of Jerusalem. Drive to Petra. Overnight.

Day 5: Petra Tour

With your guide walk the 1.2km long Siq, passing shrines, tombs and carvings before reaching the magnificent Treasury. explor the Street of Facades, Roman Theatre, Royal Tombs, Colonnaded Street, Winged Lion's Temple, and the Petra Museum where your guided tour will conclude. The rest of the day is free-time to continue exploring the city. Climb to the Monastery and/or High Place of Sacrifice.
Overnight Petra

During the Exodus, Moses and the Israelites passed through the Petra area in Edom. Local tradition says that the spring at Wadi Musa (Valley of Moses), just outside Petra, is the place where Moses struck the rock and brought forth water. Aaron, brother of Moses and Miriam, is buried in Petra at Jabal Harun (Mt. Aaron). From a distance you can see the shrine/tomb of Aaron on the summit of the mountain. Pilgrims from all over the world make the 3.5 hour climb.

Day 6: Petra - Lot's cave - Lot's Wife Pillar - Dead Sea

After breakfast we head to the Dead Sea. Descend into the Rift Valley and drive beside the Dead Sea to reach your hotel on the northern foreshore. Along the way we will have a brief stop at Lot's Wife Pillar. At 420 metres below sea level the Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth. Enjoy floating on the surface of the Sea, seven times saltier than regular seawater.

Day 7: Baptism site - Machaerus - Umm Ar-Rasas - Amman

You will start the day by visiting Bethany Beyond the Jordan where Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist and Joshua led the children of Israel into the Promised Land. Then visit Machaerus (Mukawir), a fortress set on a high hill near the Dead Sea. This is where Salome danced for King Herod, and John the Baptist was beheaded. From the top of this mountain it is possible to see Herod's two other mountain-top palaces, Herodium near Bethlehem and Alexandrian near Jericho. Umm al Rasas is mentioned in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. Whilst most of the city lies in ruins, visit the Church of St Stephen with its perfectly preserved mosaic floor, depicting the images of 27 Old and New Testament cities of the Holy Land, east and west of the River Jordan. Drive to Amman.

Day 8: Amman - Departure

Today you will be transferred to Queen Alia International Airport for your departure flight.
